Kenyans have been cautioned to dispose of all the plastic bags in their possession before Nema catches up with them.
According to Nairobi county director Njoki Mukiri, the ban has been successful and those found with the forbidden products will face the full force of the law.
“Kenyans will always wait for the last minute. Only small traders, including mama mbogas and fruit sellers, who still have them [plastic bags],” she said, asking residents to use alternative packaging materials.
NEMA officers last week nabbed a resident who was still selling plastic bags.
Hawk eyed NEMA officials on September 5 pounced at Michael Wamuyu at his business along Moi Avenue in Nairobi.
10 tonnes of plastic bags were found on him.
