Lawyer Dr PLO Lumumba during the Citizen TV's JKL interview on Wednesday. He disagrees with 'other' presidential candidates calling for ' 'equal treatment' during the presidential debate. [Photo: Citizen Digital]Presidential candidates 'begging' for equal treatment during the presidential debate slated for Monday next week have been told off.Political analyst Dr PLO Lumumba says the event is not a high school debate and that President Uhuru Kenyatta should be left to debate with Raila Odinga alone."Let the ‘Jubilites’ and the ‘Nasalites’ debate separately from the rest. The Presidential Race is between Jubilites and Nasarites! I have great respect for the others but they can’t be president," said Lumumba. He added: "Remember this is a presidential debate where we are looking for someone who is going to lead us for the next five years and we cannot afford to have an average kind of debate and name calling like we witnessed in the Nairobi debate. Debates are an opportunity to move away from the demagoguery of campaigns and focus on real issues."Lumumba noted that having many candidates on a single platform may confuse issues saying it will turn the debate into a workshop. However, it remains to be seen whether Uhuru and Raila will reconsider their decisions to snub the debate. President Uhuru withdrew on Wednesday citing lack of all consultations by the organisers while Raila withdrew some hours later saying he disagrees with the 'debate format'.
