Speaking to journalists at their offices in Rongo Sub-County, Bartholomew Ageng’o, chairman of the National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPD) in both Homabay and Migori Counties said that they will not allow elected leaders to influence the choice of their representative.

Ageng’o said that they know among themselves those who can champion for the interests of the members well, and those with selfish interests.

The chairman pointed out that those who were appointed to the county assemblies in the two counties have forgotten their roles and are now dwelling on issues irrelevant to people with disability.

He added that the level of awareness to persons with disability is quite too low as they are not well represented, and there are no mechanisms put in place to cater for the same.

He said that poor communication has cost them a lot as they have missed a lot of opportunities when it comes to resource allocation.

At the same time, he cried foul of the oppression they have received from Migori county government, which he alleges, excludes special needs representatives from its special committees.

Ageng’o said in doing so, they are sidelined in issues of governance, which they should be taking part in irrespective of their status.

He therefore requested the nominate members to continue lobbying for the rights of those which special needs.
