Persons living with disabilities from Nakuru County have been urged to be champions of peace and good governance in the society.
Chairman of the national council of persons living with disabilities, David Sankok, told the PLWDS that they are in a better position of bringing peace in the society and uniting this nation as well as ensuring that leaders are held responsible.
Speaking when he issued bursary cheques to students with disabilities in Nakuru town on Thursday morning, Sankok said that PLWDS are the ones who suffer most in a divided society, and told them to be at the fore front in fighting and speaking against tribalism.
“Disability does not know any tribe and therefore, as PLWDS, we should stop viewing each other from a tribe perspective but rather we should be the ones uniting other Kenyans because they can easily listen to us,” said Sankok.
“Let us ask our leaders question about how county resources are being used and let us make the society a better place for all of us,” added Sankok.
At the same time, he called on the government to offer complete and compulsory free education to PLWDS from the primary level to the university level.
“Our government has done a commendable job in addressing issues affecting PLWDS, but we want them to ensure that all PLWDS, especially those in school, can get free education up to the highest level at the university,” he said.
Fifty students living with disabilities were issued with school fees cheques of upto Sh50,000 per student from the national council or persons living with disabilities.
