Supporters of the Party of National Unity (PNU) in Isiolo have lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to appoint their party leader Peter Munya as a Cabinet Secretary in charge of East African Community and Northern Corridor Development.
Speaking in Isiolo town, the supporters, led by the county chairman Moses Githinji said that the PNU supporters and Isiolo residents were happy with the President’s gesture of goodwill to appoint three people from the upper Eastern region to serve in his cabinet.
Those appointed to the cabinet from the region are Peter Munya, Margaret Kobia, and Amb. Ukur Yattani.
Abdul Bahari was appointed as a Chief Administrative Secretary while Peter Kaberia and Japhet Micheni were assigned roles as Principal Secretaries.
Githinji said that the appointment will benefit the Miraa business community if the former Meru governor succeeds in looking for new Miraa markets in Tanzania, Uganda and other neighboring countries.
Some of these countries already have an existing ban on Miraa use, but the crop growers and sellers are now optimistic that Munya could use his influence as a Cabinet Secretary to champion for the lifting of such bans for the benefit of the entire region.
He urged members of the national assembly to okay the president’s appointments to enable them to get down to work.
The party's organizing secretary Sam Mwambia said that Munya will ultimately deliver, citing his track record both as a Member of Parliament and as a governor.
He argued that the appointment had given the party and their leader more clout, saying that come the year 2022, PNU will have more representation in positions of leadership.
