Police officers in Nyamira County have been accused for harassing and arresting drivers ferrying tea leaves to local factories.
Affected farmers insists the unwarranted arrests leads to huge losses during ferrying of the pruduce.
“Police officers working at road blocks have been arresting drivers on claims that the Lorries are not allowed to operate on the road,” said Jackson Morema, a farmer.
Stephen Mogeni, the factory’s Director urged police to stop frustrating the drivers.
“Our lorries have met all road requirements to operate on the roads. We don’t know why the officers are always arresting the drivers because they are qualified,” said Mogeni.
Mogeni assured the farmers that plan have been made to meet with county commissioner to air their grievances.
