A Senior Police Inspector accused of murdering a Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) University student in Kisumu’s Mamboleo area has been denied an application to be released on bond.
Appearing at Winam Law Courts before Resident Magistrate(RM) Caroline Njalale, the accused claimed that he was languishing in the police cells for no apparent reasons and blamed the police for slow investigations.
Sebastian Ambani, the OCS of Kehancha Police Station is accused of killing a KCA student last week by shooting him at close range on the chest using a pistol, after an argument between them occurred at a local drinking joint.
Alfred Shibeka, the officer investigating the case, asked the court to grant him more days to allow him conclude evidence gathering, and the court granted him 7 more days.
Shibeka insisted the court should not grant the suspect the bond claiming that his life was already in danger.
“Residents in Mamboleo area and also the family members of the deceased in Kuria are baying for his blood. Releasing him to the public would jeopardize investigation besides also putting his life in danger,” stated Shibeka.
RM Njalale was also informed that the suspect had already colluded with a gang who were threatening witnesses lined-up to testify in the case and the situation would be augmented if he was to be released.
The suspect, however, denied having organized a team to threaten the witnesses.
Ambani has been in police custody since May 10 after he was arrested following the shooting incident.
RM Njalale ordered that case be mentioned on May 21 where directions concerning a hearing date will be given.
