Bokeira residents in North Mogirango constituency, Nyamira County have accused police officers of promoting illicit brew business by taking bribes and protecting the brewers.
The residents, led by one of their clan elders who did not want to be mentioned said that police from Nyamusi and Ekerenyo, both administration police and regular ones, usually take Sh3,000 monthly from the brewers.
"Police officers from Ekerenyo and Nyamusi come to the village monthly to take Sh3,000 from illicit brewers, both APs and Kenya Police. One officer by the name Nyakundi usually comes on a motorbike to collect the money from these brewers yet we are fighting hard to stop this act," said the clan elder.
The residents also said that the police officers are in three groups one of Nyamusi who are APs, two Ekerenyo who are Kenya police and the last the county bosses.
"The money they collect is divided in three groups, one Nyamusi post under APs, two Ekerenyo police stations and the last being county bosses," said some of the residents.
They spoke to this writer on Monday at Bokeira ward in North Mogirango constituency.
