The residents have decried high cases of donkeys being stolen and later found slaughtered.

On Tuesday, residents stumbled on donkey carcasses dumped on the road.

Martin Mutuma, a water vendor in the town, said that he came across the carcasses early Tuesday morning as he went on with his business.

“There is need for the police to take this matter seriously and arrest those slaughtering and selling donkey meat,” he said.

Mutuma further alleged that police are well aware of those behind donkey slaughtering, saying that they must be sharing proceeds together.

Residents are now living in fear that they might be consuming donkey meat.

Sharon Baraka, a resident, expressed fears of having consumed the meat, saying cases of donkey slaughter are on the rise.

In July, the sub-county health department issued a stern warning to those allegedly engaging in the practice. The department ordered inspection of all butcheries and restaurants to determine and inspect the meat they sell.

This comes as a prominent businessman plans to construct a donkey slaughter in the sub-county.
