This comes after a series of theft incidents in the region with victims accusing police of being aware of crimes based on their laxity to act despite being called for rescue.

On Wednesday, most residents seemed to blame the police force for allegedly colluding with criminal elements to vandalise them.

“Sometimes it’s amusing that you can be cornered by these criminals and call the police who fails to come in time. Some of these thieves put on police uniform and this could be a strong indication that police have something to do with this,” said Biko Okello.

Linda Monda accused the police for trivialising the matter instead of taking action, adding that the officers have been sympathising with suspects.

“I have no faith in our police force and I wonder the essence of reforms that are being done. They are not disciplined and have been defending prime suspects,” she said.

However, area OCPD Tom Mutisysa defended the men in uniform from the fierce attacks, saying police have been handling the issues with professionalism.

“These accusations I think are not fair to the police force. The police are busy investigating theft incidents from the region and the investigations might take longer before culprits are brought to book,” he said.
