Police officers and members of the public from Athi river yesterday held an open day in a bid to ease tension between men of uniform and residents to fight crime in the region.
In a colorful event characterized by the song, dance, and eatery held at Athi River police station residents mingled freely with officers who majority clad in civilian clothes.
Residents were given an opportunity to express they concerns on matters security, ask questions and air any grievances they come across in their daily interactions with police officers.
Joyful residents lauded the move saying it's a rare move they have never had before.
They urge the need of embracing such initiatives saying it is a very important in ensuring mutual working relationship.
Children and vulnerable children from the surrounding slums had an opportunity to enjoy delicacies and free clothes.
Athi River OCPD Shama Wario says the initiative will encourage members of the public to volunteer information to security agencies to help curb crime.
He says when the public trust police officers it will help beef up security as information is given on criminal activities are given on time.
Wario assured members of the public that all the information they give will be treated as confidential and thus no need of fearing being exposed.
The event was organized and sponsored by Athi River police station officers, well-wishers and members of the community.
