Police have arrested seventeen people for allegedly operating illegal LPG refilling centres in Thika and Limuru towns in Kiambu County.
In an operation that was carried out on Tuesday night, 448 assorted gas cylinders, five vehicles and other equipment used in conducting the business, were seized.
Police say they arrested seven suspects and seized 213 assorted filled cylinders, 156 empty ones, a tanker and two lorries in Thika's Makongeni Estate.
In Limuru, 79 cylinders, a tanker and two salon cars were seized and 10 suspects arrested.
Officials from Energy Regulation Commission (ERC) had apparently marked the premises as illegal before teams of detectives from Special Crimes Prevention Unit raided them.
Police say the operation on illegal gas refilling centres is ongoing in major towns across the country. The suspects are expected in court.
