Twenty students were on Tuesday arrested following a school riot that led to destruction of property.

The students, belonging to Iterio Boys High School, are said to have staged protests on Sunday night, demanding an early mid-term break.

Confirming the incident, Gesonso OCPD David Mabrukwa said the students will be treated as criminals and charged with malicious damage to school property.

The students are said to have broken windows and smashed chairs during the incident.

Mr Isaack Ogol, the school principal, condemned the riots, and asked the students to adhere to the rules set by the Ministry of Education.

“All students in secondary schools across the country will be going for midterm from June 19-26. There is no way we can go against that policy.

We got help from the police and some students managed to apprehend the culprits,” said Mr Ogol, as quoted by Kenyans.co.ke.

Most of the students who were arrested are in Form Four.

In August last year, five students were charged in court for burning seven dormitories worth Sh4.9 million in protest of being denied to watch a football match.
