Police have nailed nine bank staff who were on duty when a cool Sh30 million were stolen.
Police said the staff, who work at Isiolo’s Cooperative Bank, are suspects in the theft as nobody raised alarm.
According to investigations, the nine staff told police that robbers stormed the bank armed with AK rifles, tied them with ropes and then ransacked the save for the cash before walking out quietly.
Even guards at the bank’s door did not know there was a theft.
The Operations Manager called on Monday at around six in the evening reporting the theft.
“They told the detectives one staff opened the door for the robbers, who entered the premises and thereafter tied them up and forced them to lie on the ground,” an investigator told a local paper.
Police have put the staff at the centre of the investigations after doubts over the casual way of being robbed.
“The only people present in the premises were the entire staff of the day and there were no customers. The security guards did not hear of any commotion nor noticed anything unusual,” an officer said.
He added: “They told the officers the robbers were armed with AK-47 rifles but no one could describe how it (the weapon) looks like”. CCTV footage has also reportedly not shown any theft but investigations are still on course.
