Police officers in Nakuru have arrested a suspect linked to drug trafficking and transportation of unlicensed local brews.
The suspect was on Monday found transporting 217 rolls of bhang valued at Sh434,000 and 10 litres of chang’aa in a private salon car from Busia to Nairobi.
Confirming the incident, Nakuru police boss Benard Kioko said the suspect was evading a road block near the Salgaa trading centre before being involved in a road accident with a personal vehicle along the Eldama Ravine-Nakuru road.
“During arrest the suspect, who was speeding his vehicle, was subjected to alcohol blow and was found to have the highest level of consumption,” said Kioko. He pointed out that such incidences of drug trafficking have been reported, mostly involving vehicles travelling from Busia County to Nairobi.
The suspect will be arraigned in court today. Last month, Nakuru police officers seized 120 rolls of bhang valued at Sh500,000, 25 packets of coffee spirits manufactured in Uganda, with 12 sachets and 15 litres of chang’aa in a bus that was transit from Busia heading to Nairobi. In the same month, police seized 1,006 rolls of bhang in a saloon car valued at Sh1.3 million in Molo town that was being transported to Nairobi after it was involved in a road accident at Mau Summit with a passenger vehicle.
