Police in Malindi have arrested two people suspected to be trafficking narcotic drugs at Kaoyeni in Malindi. The two men were reportedly in possession of 478 roles of bhang concealed in about five sacks.

Malindi deputy OCPD Mike Njeru said the suspects, a father, and his son were arrested in their house on Tuesday morning following a tip-off from members of the public that they were selling drugs to suspecting clients.

Addressing the press at the police station, Mr. Njeru who identified the suspects as Mr. Stephen Mtawali, 40, and his 19-year-old son Kahindi Mtawali said they have launched an investigation that will lead to the arrest of more suspects.

“The suspects were found in possession of 168 and 310 big and small roles of bhang respectively that had been concealed in sacks with another 6 kilograms of bhang that had not been wrapped into roles,” he said.

The deputy police chief said the suspects who are assisting police with investigations will be taken to court on Wednesday and charged with the offense.

The incidence comes about a month after about a ton of narcotic drug that had overstayed at Malindi Law courts worth Sh10 million were destroyed at Mayungu area.
