Police in Kabuchai Constituency in Bungoma are holding a man who tried to bury his mother alive following a dispute over land.
Efforts by the 40-year-old Chris Wamalwa aimed at burying the mother at Siuno village were thwarted by neighbours and passersby after they heard the mother crying for help.
On rushing to the scene, they found Wamalwa struggling to bury the elderly woman in a pit latrine that had been dug halfway.
“I'm a widow and my only property will save me from poverty. I had sold a piece of plot so that I can use the money for my personal needs and when my son heard of the sale, he rushed to my home and demanded for a share. He attempted to bury me after he failed to get what he wanted,” claimed Beatrice Nasaka, the mother.
Nasaka said she bought a one-acre piece of land for the son in a neighbouring village.
Confirming the incident, area village elder Ronald Umbu revealed that they have taken the suspect to Nalondo police camp.
