Police on Friday arrested a man who recently declared his bid to run for the presidency in the 2017 general elections.
Cliff Mboya was arrested and booked at Kileleshwa Police Station over a Sh5 million cash deposit that was made into his bank account in January.
According to authorities, the source of the money that was deposited into his Housing Finance Bank account was suspect.
Mboya has however said that he is a businessman and he received the money from a legal business transaction.
“I am a businessman and during the time the money came to my account, I was expecting Sh10 million from Mr John Abei from South Sudan who wanted me to invest the money from him,” he says in a letter.
“Why did your bank not query the source of this money when it hit my account in January 2016?” Mboya asks in the December 17 letter addressed HFC Managing Director Frank Ireri.
He will be arraigned today Monday at the Nairobi Milimani courts.
