Police in Eldoret town arrested a supermarket attendant accused of defiling a young girl.
Speaking to the press yesterday during the arrest, Isa Manja the Eldoret deputy police boss said that the suspect waylaid the standard four girl as she was going home from school and he went ahead and defiled her at the supermarket which is situated in Kisumu Ndogo.
“The suspect is said to have lured the young girl and when the girl entered the supermarket, the man started to threaten her before he defiled her. Some of the residents who wanted to lynch the suspect started rooting properties and goods at the supermarket before the police officers arrived. After we arrived, the residents started throwing stones at us,” Manja said.
Manja went ahead and said that the young girl told them that the man threatened her that if she made noise he would kill her.
"We have taken the young girl to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital where she is undergoing treatment. As for the suspect, we have taken him to custody whereby we are going to take him to court on Monday to face charges of defilement and also assault,” Manja said.
Uasin Gishu county commissioner Abdi Mohammed said that crimes in most of the slums in Eldoret town have increased in a very alarming rate.
"We have deployed our security officers in all the slums so that they can try and curb the high rising crimes in the slums,” Abdi mohammed said.
