Jared Ondieki, 43, is believed to be a ring leader of a group of thugs that has abducted, murdered and even car-jacked Kisii town residents for close to a year on separate incidents.

Confirming the apprehension, Mutsya hailed locals for giving intelligence information about the whereabouts of the suspect that led to the successful operation and subsequent arrest.

“He has been leading a gang that has manhandled, stolen properties and even defrauded residents. This is a major step towards eliminating these armed criminals. I am sincerely thankful to you residents for your cooperation,” Mutsya said.

He said police recovered an AK 47 and several ammunitions, used cartridges and dangerous equipment such as machetes that were allegedly used by Ondieki and the team to oppress their targets.

“In fact we have confiscated a machine gun and some other dangerous equipment that he may have used to assault people,” he said.

He urged area residents to continue giving police fundamental information that can lead to arresting of Ondieki’s accomplices as his team continues with investigation.

“It is your mandate to work with us so that we can curb these rampant crimes. Remember our security is the responsibility of all,” he added.

The suspect will be arraigned in a Kisii court today where he will be charged with robbery with violence, murder and kidnap.
