Police have arrested two people for allegedly conning hundreds of Kisumu-based contractors. The officers said that the suspects have been moving around posing as personal assistants to Kisumu County executive member for roads and planning Vincent Kodera. Kodera said the two were nabbed by the police after complaints from members of the public. “Several people have fallen prey to the two suspects. They pose as my personal assistants and that is the bait to con these contractors,” he said. He said he has one personal assistant by the name Aggrey Agger and nobody should purport to be his PA. Kodera said the two have been fleecing contractors millions of shillings with the hope of getting contracts. "For so long they have used the name of Agger to solicit funds from unsuspecting Kenyans and now there time is up,” he said. Speaking to the press in Kisumu, Kodera said it is even illegal to pay bribes to county government staff to win tenders in Kisumu. He said tenders are competitively bid and no Kenyan should be locked out and forced to part with a bribe to win. Kodera warned contractors to be wary of such characters and report to his office or any other relevant offices such individuals. “This should now serve as an example to the contractors to be wary of people who demand cash from them to benefit from county tenders,” he said. Police are still conducting further investigations before the two suspects are arraigned before a court of law.
