Police on Saturday arrested two suspects that were part of a five man gang which had attacked residents in Bosigisa village, Bobaracho sub-location near Kisii Town.
The heavily armed gang that suspected residents to an orgy of violence and terror included a man dressed in police jungle fatigues carrying a rifle.
According to community policing coordinator in the area Stephen Onsare, the gang subjected residents to a night of terror as they raided several homes, robbing them of several household items and electronics.
“We received distress calls from a number of residents whose homes the gang had struck, prompting us to call the police for help as they were said to be armed with a number of firearms and assorted crude weapons,” said Mr Onsare.
He told the Nation that the gang first struck the home of Peter Mokwaro and his two sons. The gang robbed his wife of cash and mobile phones before proceeding to the sons’ homes where they also made away with cash and mobile phones.
The gang next raided businessman Dennis Matini’s home where they broke widow grills to his home using an axe. When their attempt to access the bedroom failed, they fired a gunshot through the door, after which the businessman opened the door.
Gangsters then beat him up, casing him an injury to the hip in the process before they robbed him of Sh 17,000 and two mobile phones. Afterwards, they proceeded to the home of Jared Monari where they tied him up before raping his wife.
The gangsters then robbed him of Sh 23, 250, three mobile phones and assaulted him before fleeing the home.
A contingent of Administration Police officers, Flying Squad members and regular police officers from Kisii Central Police station rushed to the scene and intercepted the gang as it fled Mr Monari’s home.
“We intercepted the gang after it raided the home of Jared Monari and managed to arrest two suspects who were fleeing from the scene. The others are still on the run but we are on their trail,” said Kisii County Police commander Ms Agnes Mudambi.
She said the suspects who were arrested are currently helping police with investigations and will be charged in court as soon as investigations are complete.
The injured robbery victims were rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where they were treated and discharged.
