Police in Mombasa have arrested two suspects in connection with Likoni’s Monday night attack that left three people nursing serious injuries.Security personnel in the area have also recovered three machetes following the attack.Confirming the incident, Likoni police boss Benjamin Rotich said the arrested persons have crucial information and will assist police in their investigations. Rotich further said that the operation will continue until all the culprits are arrested.“We have two prime suspects and the crackdown will continue. We won’t stop until we bring all suspects to book,” said Rotich, as quoted by Baraka FM.A 50-member gang attacked residents in Ushindi area, Likoni, at around 8pm on Monday, leaving three people with serious injuries.The victims were taken to the Coast General Hospital where they were treated and discharged.A witness who was quoted by Baraka FM said the attackers were armed with different crude weapons including clubs and machetes during the incident.Police officers acted swiftly forcing the attackers who did not steal anything to escape in the alleys of Likoni. According to the daily, police have refuted claims that the attack was carried out by the Watalia and Wakali Kwanza gangs, arguing that the attack could be linked to Thursday’s repeat presidential election.The motive of the attack, however, remains unclear.
