The trading of illicit brews, popularly known to the natives as chang’aa, and busaa has risen in the town’s estates with a good customership.

Estates such as Manyatta, Kondele, Migosi, Obunga, Nyalenda and Arina are among the leading local brew dens in the town.

Kisumu City Residents’ Voice Association chairman Audi Ogada told the press that most of the unemployed youths in the town have resorted to cheap and local liquors.

Ogada noted that the town had many dens which are brewing the local brews which makes it easier for the consumers to access the cheap liquor them easily.

“We cannot be living in a society where people are drunk anytime in the twenty four hours yet we have the police.

“It is high time the police cracked the whip to both the brewers and the consumers,”said Audi.

Manyatta Youth Bubge chairman Benson Onoka also noted that the number of youth who have resorted to the local brews are rising in the town’s slum areas.

“We are asking the police to help in bringing sanity in the society. The number of such cases is alarming.”
