Police in Kisumu are on the spot for shielding mob justice offenders and perpetrators within the town.

A section of angry and disgruntled residents accused the police of taking too long to respond to such emergencies.

They said in a press statement today that allowing the public to take the law into their own hands was only adding into the already morally decayed society.

Kisumu City Residents Voice Association Chairman Audi Ogada told the press that there was need to allow the police to arrest suspects and conduct investigation on them to avoid cases of mistaken identity.

“The problem with the police is that they deliberately take too long when called to be informed of a mob justice taking place. We do not know the intention of the police by doing so,” said Ogada.

Recently, Dennis Opany, a student of Maseno University Kisumu City Campus was attacked by angry matatu operators and conductors along the Kisumu-Kakamega road for suspected robbery.

The young student was beaten, stoned and cut with machetes before being lynched using a tyre. He later succumbed to the injuries and died on the spot.

Ogada asked the police to be fast on responding to calls of attempted mob justice in the town.
