Three police officers on Saturday night attacked and serious injured a boda boda at Bonga point boda boda stage in Kitutu Masaba constituency Nyamira County.
It is alleged that the officers had asked a rider identified as Duncan Nyakawa to carry them on his motorbike but he refused prompting to the attack.
Area bodaboda official Dominic Babu confirmed the incident and said the officers forced themselves on the motorbike but the rider fell down near Mwalimu academy and the officers descended on the rider accusing him for causing an accident intentionally.
“Nyakawa had parked his motorbike at Bonga point stage when the three officers came and asked him to carry them on the motorbike but he refused.
"They forced themselves on the motorbike reaching near Mwalimu academy, the motorbike slide and they fell down. The officers then attacked the rider with handcuffs injuring his head, face and abdomen,” said Babu.
The official added that other riders, who saw the officers assaulting the rider rushed to the scene, rescued the rider and took him to hospital where he is currently being treated.
Babu called on Nyamira County commissioner Isaiah Nakoru to intervene and ensure the three officers are sacked, arrested and prosecuted.
“As riders we will not condone anyone to harass us yet we pay revenue to the county government.
"Nakoru should take a legal action against the officers and any other officer who may be out to assault riders while at work without any mistake,” he said.
