Residents of Kathoma village in Bondo, Siaya county were furious after police were deployed to guard the rural home of lawyer PLO Lumumba, thus imposing restrictions to some routes in the neighborhood.
The villagers said the deployment and restrictions to some routes have now forced them to use longer paths to get to their homes to avoid confrontations with armed policemen.
"The police officers have not only cordoned off the gates leading to the house of the lawyer but also barred villagers from using routes adjacent to that home from 7 pm," said Joel Onyango.
In a quick response, Bondo OCPD Paul Kiarie said they deployed security at Lumumba's rural home after they received intelligence report.
"We acted on intelligence reports that angry residents were planning to raid Lumumba's home. We have deployed officers to secure it," said Kiarie.
"Some villagers have vowed to torch his house and destroy his property," said a resident who requested anonymity.
The articulate lawyer has been representing IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati in the petition filed by NASA candidate Raila Odinga where he(Lumumba) dismissed the opposition petition.
