Igonga police boss Nicholas Omondi has denied collecting bribes from illicit brew dealers in the region.
Omondi said he has been at the forefront fighting to end illicit liquor business in the region.
“Cases of the illicit liquor business in Igonga division have dropped for the past 4 months. Those spreading false information that illicit brew dealers have been giving bribes to me so that they can continue making and selling illicit brew in the region are misleading embers of the public,” he said.
He assured that by the start of May there will be zero cases of illicit brews in the region.
“I have directed all my officers to ensure all those engaging in making and selling illicit brew in Igonga division are arrested and prosecuted. Members of the public are advised to report any officer they may spot collecting bribes from the homes believed to be making and selling illicit brew such as chang’aa,” he noted.
According to the police boss, there is a good working relationship between all administration officers serving in the region with the local community, chiefs and local Nyumba Kumi officials.
