Gilgil Administration Police officer in charge of crime, Inspector John Waweru says they have intensified their fight against burglary in Gilgil which has been on the rise recently.
Waweru who was speaking at his Gilgil office said that most of the break-in incidents are taking place between 9pm and four in the morning.
He has however praised the residents who he says have been keen on community policing.
“The residents have been providing information to the OCPD who in turn instructs his officers to rush to the ground and attend to the reported cases. This has helped many people who would otherwise have been robbed of their property,” Waweru said.
The residents have also expressed their satisfaction with how the police have been handling the matters when reported to them.
“We appreciate the cooperation that now exists between us and the police especially after Gilgil became a constituency and security apparatus posted here. We have seen a big difference,” Catherine Wambui, a shopkeeper says.
The Inspector General of police, David Kimaiyo, announced in August last year that the police service would re-introduce community policing to enhance security in the country as one of the reforms within the Kenyan police service.
