Ruiru police boss mr Isaac Thuranira has cautioned the residentas against using the gwa kairu underpass which is just adjuscent to kenyatta university ruiru cumpus following the recent cases of mugging around that area
The officer said that there had been increased cases of muggings which had been reported by victims who lost property stolen when they used the underpass. He said that most of the incidents usually happen in the early hoursof the morning or late in the evening
The OCPD said following the reports, his officers had intensified patrols in the area to help in bringing to book those behind the attacks. He however reminded the residents that officers cannot be permanently stationed at the site, and they should therefore ensure they avoided the route when there was less traffic.
“A number of people from the area have been attacked and robbed off their valuables at the underpass that links Gwa-Kairo market area and the Thika bus stage so people should not risk their lives to use underpass in those hours but wee are intensifying the patrols and soon we will bring the perpetrators of the criminal activities to book.”the officer said
Last month, the area residents took the law into their hands and lynched a suspect whom they linked to the notorious group that had been harassing the people.
Following the incident, the residents enjoyed a stint of peaceful nights which have since come to an end as the gang has regrouped and returned to cause more havoc.
