Police in Mombasa have identified a gang that is believed to be involved in car theft between Mombasa and Nairobi.
Mombasa County police commander Johnston Ipara who confirmed the incident said they have arrested four suspects who are part of the gang.
Mr Ipara said the four suspects were arrested on Thursday after they were found attempting to break into a car whose owner had gone to a bank near Makadara grounds, Mombasa.
Police said the four who are currently in police custody have been identified as Gabriel Opondo, Fredrick Otieno, Eugene Ochieng and Zacharia Muchima.
Mr Ipara said the police have been trailing the suspects for several months after several cases of car theft in Mombasa and Nairobi were reported.
The police commander said the gang has been causing sleepless nights to car owners in Mombasa and Nairobi.
Mr Ipara further said that the four suspects had a motor vehicle make HONDA registration number KCE 254 U at the time of their arrest.
“The suspects are currently being held at Central police station for interrogation. The four suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday to face robbery charges,” said the police commander as quoted by Baraka FM.
Mr Ipara called upon residents whose cars have been broken into to report at central police station before the suspects are arraigned in court.
