A Traffic Police officer who was caught on camera soliciting for a bribe from a motorist has been fired.

In a statement, the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett said that the officer had already been identified.

He said the officer will face disciplinary action.

“Corrupt elements within the service will not be tolerated. The officer in question is being processed for dismissal,” said Boinnet.

In the video, the police officer is seen to be demanding for a bribe from the driver who claims is a student at Makerere University failure to which he says he will charge him with speeding.

The student is seen apologizing to the officer.

“Sir I am really begging you. I am in going for an engineering function with my professor. I have tried as much as possible to regulate my speed,” says the student.

However the police officer is not interested in the explanation and directs the conversation to a “resolution path” and demands for a bribe.

The frustrated student claims that he has given him most of the money and asks to be left with some of it.

After a little chat, the officer lets the student go because he is a “foreigner”.

This comes barely two weeks after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officers off the roads effectively restoring the Traffic Police after rampant road carnage.
