In what is seen as an irony, Kisumu County Police Commander Nelson Mugweru Njiri has been promoted and transferred to become the new security General Manager at the Kenya Airports Authority to replace Eric Kiraithe who was recently appointed the government spokesman.

Mwea East OCPD Titus Yoma has been transferred to Kisumu to be the new County Police Commander, with the government set to effect more such transfers and promotions in readiness for 2017 elections in a bid to guarantee security during that time.

This comes barely a week after the anti-IEBC protests in Kisumu turned chaotic, and culminated in the death of one protester who is said to have been shot by the police.

However, an autopsy report showed that Fredrick Otieno, deceased, lost his life after being published.

The death sparked mixed reactions from the region's politicians and activist groups alike who demanded that the Inspector General of Police should be held accountable over the actions of his officers.

Nelson Njiri's promotion and subsequent transfer may not just go well with the residents of the area and leaders alike who claim the government is targeting them over their involvement in the issue of IEBC.
