In the incident, a middle aged man who was allegedly found stealing from one of the residential premises was lynched by the angry mob on Saturday night.

Speaking to the press on Sunday while collecting the remains of the deceased, Linguli urged residents to report the criminals to the police to make sure they do not kill a suspect who may be innocent.

"I am asking the public not to take justice into their hands. Sometimes one may be found in a crime scene and just be a victim of circumstances having not been involved in any way with the crime. Let the police deal with the suspects and let them prove their innocence in a court of law,” the officer said.

He said that the work of the police is to make sure that they arrest the criminals but not to deliver corpses to the mortuary.

Witeithie has in the past had cases of insecurity and the suspects of crime have also been subjected to violence by mobs where some of the victims have turned out to be completely innocent.
