Police have commenced investigations into Migori violence that erupted, Monday, during an ODM rally.

Chaos begun when supporters of Migori governor Okoth Obado and his opponent Ochilo Ayacko clashed forcing police and politicians’ bodyguards to fire in the air.

A bodyguard to Mombasa governor Hassan Joho was shot at the leg while the governor escaped unhurt. However, it is not clear who fired at him.

Police spokesman Charles Owino noted that the incident could have become worse if not for the presence of security officers at Posta Grounds.

He said the matter was under probe and asked politicians to follow the law whenever carrying out campaigns.

“As police we are on top of things and the incident that took place in Migori yesterday is under investigations and we are going to come up with very good results on that,” said Owino, Tuesday.

“Mostly, we are going to be very strict on public order. Each and every politician will have to follow procedure when engaging in campaigns,” he added.

Owino dismissed the involvement of police and the government in the incident.

“What happened in Migori is not a police or government scheme. It has nothing to do with the government.”
