A 27 year old man in Nyangusu, Nyamache sub-county was found hanging by a rope from the rafters of the roof in his house.

His mother, Ms Elizabeth Nyambeki, told police officers she had left her son, Nyangenya Mose, in his house as she went to fetch water from the river 500 metres away from the family home.

“After his mother returned, she found him dangling from the rafters with a rope around his neck. She then notified the police who visited the scene and confirmed the incident,” Kisii County Police Commander Agnes Mudambi said.

The motive of the suicide thought to have occurred at around 6 p.m. Tuesday evening is still unknown.

In the same sub-county, Edward Mose was found drowned in a well after attending a funeral at a neighbour’s home.

His father, Paul Nyangwara said he became suspicious after his son failed to return from the funeral at a neighboring home.

“We launched a search for my son after he failed to return more than two hours after the funeral service had ended. The search ended at the well where we discovered his body,” he said.

Mose speculated that his son might have jumped into the well in the absence of family members.

“I think he went to the well and took his own life unnoticed since we were not around the area at the time. Had we been in the compound, he might have been restrained on time,” he said.

The deceased had a history of mental disorder.

“We have always taken care of him in our home in the hopes that he would live a full and peaceful life, but unfortunately he is now gone. His death is such a devastating loss to us,” said the tearful father.

Meanwhile, a man committed suicide by taking poison in Nyataro village, Kegati location on Wednesday

According to his sister Grace Nyakundi, the late Richard Obino was found dead in his house with a bottle of pesticide beside him.

She  also told the reporter that the late Obino had lately shown signs of depression, having tried unsuccessfully to convince his estranged wife to return to their marital home.

“The deceased had recently separated from his wife and was living alone. In the days leading up to his death,” he had become depressed and withdrawn, avoiding the company of family members, she said.

Ms Mudambi said her officers had opened investigations into the incidents and urged locals to work with the police to reduce such 'unfortunate' cases.
