Mombasa County Commissioner Evans Achoki has assured locals and holidaymakers in the county of heightened security.Achoki said those visiting Jomo Kenyatta public beach and Shelly beach in Likoni are also secure as security agents were patrolling the beaches 24 hours.Speaking after inspecting the Jomo Kenyatta public beach in Bamburi on Monday, Achoki said locals and tourists were cooperating with security agents, adding that no incidents have been reported so far.He said that with all security systems well placed, nothing will dampen the holiday mood among residents and visitors in the county. He said Mombasa was experiencing a high number of visitors especially at the beaches, Likoni ferry channel and shopping malls within the Central Business District (CBD) and along the Mombasa-Malindi road especially at City mall and Nyali areas. The county commissioner said security meetings held last week before the Christmas celebrations have yielded fruits, adding that officers assigned to man public areas were proactive.“We are all human beings and if we work together then this Christmas will be a memorable one since more visitors will even flock here next year and in the years to come,” said Achoki. He urged holidaymakers to report any incidences to the security desk placed at Pirates and Shelly beach so as to avert any security crisis which may occur.“We have initiated temporary police booths at Pirates and at the Shelly beach in Likoni as well so that nothing distracts the holiday season,” he added. On his part, Kisauni Police boss Christopher Rotich said that so far no incident that could interfere with the celebrations at Pirates public beach has been reported. His sentiments were echoed by his Likoni counterpart Benjamin Rotich who said the security situation at Shelly beach was under control. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
