A police constable accused of soliciting 5,000 from motorists was on Monday charged at Nakuru court with six counts of corruption.
Mr Abdi Juma who appeared before Chief Magistrate David Kemei was charged that on March 28, 2014, he solicited and received 5,000 shillings bribe from Ronney Ouma on behalf of Joel Kuria as an inducement to let free of his vehicle with worn out tyres at Salgaa Trading Centre along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
According to the prosecution, the accused used his position as an employee of National police service as police constabe attached at Salgaa traffic base to commit the offence.
Mr Juma is also facing other charges of resisting arrest from Corporal Francis Wafula for the alleged offence on the same date.
He was also charged with concealing evidence after he hid the 5,000 shillings money used by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption commission detectives for investigations.
According to court files, Mr Juma first appeared in court on April 2014 but failed to take plea since he had filed a petition before court seeking to have the matter handled by the high court.
The petition was however disposed off and the court directed that the suspect take plea on September 6 which did not go through since the accused was unwell.
A warrant of arrest was issued by the court since he did not have medical report to prove to the court that he was unwell.
He denied all the charges and was released on 20,000 shillings bond for each count and a cash baill of 10,000 shillings.
The case will be mentioned on 3 October 2016
