The National Police Service has dismissed reports that major donors for the police reforms programme pulled out due to the force's brutality on protestors during the August and October elections.
According to the Standard on Tuesday, the decision to stop funding the programme was communicated to the government last week.
The paper claimed the government of Sweden, which allegedly pumped in up to Sh800 million to help in the transformation of the service, quit after realising the police still engaged in extrajudicial killings and other abuses.
But speaking to the same daily, the Principal Assistant to Deputy Inspector General of Police King'ori Mwangi said donors who had been helping to provide equipment and modern skills training pulled out in 2015.
"As far as I know, these donors pulled out of the programme more than two years ago. They even moved their offices to Gigiri from Bruce House. There is nothing like pulling out because of post-election brutality," he told the paper on Wednesday.
Mwangi said the reforms programme was on course, adding the government was looking for more donors.
