Police have denied commercial sex workers in Mombasa a permit to hold demonstrations to protest against their colleague’s death.The prostitutes raised concern after their efforts to demonstrate onTuesday met resistance after they were denied a permit by the police. The victim, who was only identified as Martha was allegedly murdered by a client at the popular Casablanca club. Speaking to Baraka FM, Coast Sex Workers Association official Esther Nelima said so far three sex workers have been killed under unclear circumstances. She also revealed that the county has around 11,500 sex workers aged between ages 16 and 68 years old.A source that sought anonymity told the local daily that the client murdered Martha, a mother of one, after she allegedly infected him with HIV/AIDS. “She was not seen until the afternoon of the following day when we raised alarm. We later found out she had been butchered and left behind,” said the source, as quoted by Baraka FM.
