Speaking on Friday after a successful crackdown on illicit liquor that saw administration police in Nakuru impound more than 5, 000 litres of Kangara within a residential area in Mwariki Bahati, he admitted that the molasses business is a huge problem in dealing with illicit liquor.

Shefi said: “I’m told this suspect has invested heavily in this illegal business, and am also told that there are a number of notorious dens like Rhonda, Kaptembwa and Mwariki. Let them be warned that I am not going to leave any stone unturned.”

He led the operation together with the area head of administration police Barnabas Kimutai.

The suspect was identified as Muriuki whose premises have been raided several times before, but has been investing heavily to see it revived.

The officers also found bottles with Meakins, Sting, Horizon, Kane and Jebel labels, which the suspect used to repack and sell the substance to unsuspecting customers.

Sting and horizon brands of portable spirits are some of the brands that have found their way into the market after the proprietor of Biscepts Limited obtained a court order in 2015.

“On Thursday we conducted another raid in London area and we destroyed more than 3,000 litres of Kangara. We want to call upon all business men especially those who sell molasses, to make sure that they do not sell their products to those who prepare illicit liquor. We are going to work together with relevant government offices so that they do not issue licenses to such kind of people,” said Shaffi.
