Police officers have until 4, January 2018 to submit their comments to police headquarters regarding their role in the management of the 2017 elections.The directive was given by police headquarter after a continued outcry from the public and complaints that the police failed on their mandate during the concluded 2017 elections."Please go through Chapter 56 of the service standing orders and submit your comments be submitted before January 4, 2018,"read an internal memo to the officers.Chapter 56 of the National Police Service Standing orders; Police Duties at Elections provides guidelines on the police role during the election.The Standing Orders are administrative orders for the general control, direction, and information of the service deemed to unite all police services under the command of the Inspector General.The police department has been accused of killing more than 80 people in the post-election period in their efforts to counter protests.Many others are nursing serious bullet wounds inflicted by police during electioneering period.
