In regard to the recent cases of reported crime in Molo, police have earmarked areas they suspect to be hot spots and hideouts for the perpetrators.
Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Molo deputy police boss Paul Mbusya noted that Koibatek forest, Kapsita and Bunda were areas suspected to be homes for the most notorious criminals in the area.
According to Mbusya, the gang of more than six people terrorised residents in groups of two then escaped with the help of awaiting motorbikes.
“The most dangerous place was Koibatek forest where after attacking motorists along the highway, they jump onto the motorcycles and speed into the forest making it hard for victims to pursue them,” he explained.
The police boss expressed commitment on the side of the law enforcers, saying that other than mounting road blocks at different points along the highway, plain clothe police had been deployed in different market centres as the search for the gang that tried to hijack a lorry on Tuesday morning intensifies.
He further called on bodaboda operators to ensure that they are registered to Saccos which he said would help easily identify the owner of a motorbike in the case of a crime.
“We suspect that the gang other than being from within, they use motorbikes from this area because they seem to be organised, confident and very daring; something which can only be associated with people with a clear security and geographical description of the area,” he said.
On Tuesday, an AK 47 rifle, 30 rounds of ammunition a motorbike and a police jacket were recovered at Bunda shopping centre along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway after a hijack attempt was thwarted. The suspects who escaped on foot are still at large.
