The body of Joseph Megei was exhumed following a court order that a postmortem be conducted on it to establish the cause of his death.

Machakos Criminal Investigations Directorate boss Rodah Gichana told journalists her office received the court order as the family of the deceased sought to know the cause of his death.

Megei died about a month ago at his home and the family read mischief in his death and called for thorough investigations to be done to find out what cause his death.

"We received the court order and we have no excuse but to have it effected. We have contacted the family over the same and we are ready to exhume the body," Gichana said in Machakos town after being served with the court order.

The incident happened less than one month after traders exhumed the body of a woman said to have buried in a disputed piece of land in Longonot village in Machakos.

The woman's body was exhumed and buried in a public cemetery and the family members who defied a court order that had said the lady should not be buried in the disputed land jailed for six months.
