The body of a 34-year-old man who was killed by a mob in Likoni was on Monday exhumed by police officers following a court order.
Likoni OCPD Willy Samba confirmed that five suspects are being held in police custody in connection to the murder of the deceased.
According to Mr Simba, the body was exhumed to allow police to conduct a postmortem, after the five suspects were arrested and arraigned in a Mombasa Court.
The five were charged with the murder of Mr Shafi Abdallah who was beaten to death on June 29, 2016 in Mtongwe, Mombasa County.
“Five suspects are currently in police custody as we continue with our investigations into the murder. An autopsy will be done to ascertain the cause of death of the deceased,” said the police boss.
Mr Abdallah was killed by an angry mob after allegedly stealing a boat battery.
“A video showing the suspects killing the deceased went viral on social media and the suspects were arrested after police conducted investigations,” said Simba.
