Three thugs were shot dead in Nakuru Town while attempting to steal from Dubai Shopping Mall while four escaped with gunshot wounds on Friday morning.
According to Nakuru Town police boss, Bernard Kioko, the thugs were armed with a home-made gun and machetes where they attacked the guard and injured him badly.
“It is believed that one of the thugs hid himself inside the mall before it was closed at evening and he is the one who helped the others enter by breaking down the doors,” said Kioko.
Kioko said that it is the guard’s screams while he was being beaten by the thugs alerted the police who were on patrol.
"When we challenged them to put down their weapons they refused and engaged us and that is how we shot three dead. The other four jumped through the windows and escaped with gunshot wounds," said Kioko.
He added: "I am now appealing to the hospitals around to report to us anybody who goes to seek treatment with gunshot wounds."
He said that they had stolen valuables, clothes and electronics and he suspected they had a lorry hidden somewhere for transportation purposes.
