Seven bandits were on Tuesday evening killed by police officers during a security operation in Tiaty, Baringo County.
The police engaged the bandits in a serious shootout in Nasorot, a remote village in Baringo.
One police officer sustained serious injuries during the fire exchange.
“The seven bandits were killed but there are many more who are believed to have escaped with serious injuries,” asenior police officer from the region was quoted by Capital Fm.
“The death toll is likely to rise,” he said.
The officers recovered an AK-47 rifle from the Pokot bandits.
Baringo has been affected by insecurity crisis, forcing the government to deploy the military in the region to restore peace between the Pokot and Marakwet community members.
The locals are fighting over land and pasture for their animals.
