The bandits were attempting to block the burial of 10 people who were killed during an attack.
The burial ceremony was disrupted shortly as police engaged the four, who confronted the officers at Mukutani in Baringo South.
The police officers were escorting the bodies of the 10, six women and four children, for burial.
The 10 deceased were shot dead in a Tuesday bandit attack. They were from the Ilchamus community.
More police reservists and officers have been deployed in the area, Baringo county police commander Peter Ndungu said.
