Police in Mombasa on Friday evening shot dead a man suspected to be coordinating a ring of radical groups in Coast region.
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet confirmed that Hussein Omar was shot and killed in Bamburi after a fierce fire exchange with police pursuing him.He was gunned down outside his house as he attempted to escape after exhausting ammunition he had in the AK47 rifle he possessed. His killing came hours after four people were beheaded by suspected al Shabaab militants in Maleli village, Lamu West.Their bodies were discovered in a bush by police.Last week Coast Regional Commissioner Nelson Marwa warned youth warming up to join radical groups that law enforcement agencies will firmly deal with them asking them to surrender. The four killed in Lamu are said to have been guarding their farms against invasion by herders who graze livestock in people’s farms.
