Police on Wednesday night shot and killed a suspected gangster in Majengo, Shauri Moyo in a failed robbery attempt.

Nairobi police commander Japhet Koome who confirmed the incident said the gang of four tried to rob residents before the police responded.

Mr Koome said the public tipped-off undercover officers who were on patrol, prompting them to act swiftly in an attempt to intercept the gangsters.

According to Koome, the suspects were caught committing the crime and asked to surrender but defied the order.

He said one of the suspected gangsters was shot dead but the others managed to escape adding that the police recovered a pistol with three bullets.

The police boss further added that the police have launched an operation in search of the robbers who managed to escape.

“We caught the suspects committing the crime and we asked them to surrender but they defied the order and one of them was fatally shot. Others escaped,” said the police commander.

The body was taken to City Mortuary and the victim booked as an unidentified person, pending tests to establish his identity.
